In 1961, Guido Berlucchi produced the first bottle of Franciacorta — and in doing so, created an entirely new category of Italian sparkling wine. The ‘61 Extra Brut is a direct tribute to that founding moment: a wine that honors the method, the place, and the vision that put Franciacorta on the world stage. Made from 85% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Nero, aged 24 months on the lees in the traditional method, it earns scores of 92 from James Suckling, 91 from Vinous, and 90 from Wine Advocate — and delivers the kind of precision and elegance that makes Franciacorta Italy's most serious answer to Champagne.
The nose is vivid and inviting — Asian pear, lemon oil, green apple, lime flowers, and an enriching hint of toasted brioche and sourdough. On the palate, the wine is supple and pleasing, with a core of citrus-tinged acidity balancing a pleasant inner sweetness. Young peach, white pepper, orange peel, and inner florals resonate throughout, while almond paste and salty mineral linger on the finish.
