Located in the heart of the appellation, the Commanderie was founded by the Knights Templar in the early Middle Ages — the first recorded grape harvest here dates to 1256. The Rigord family purchased the estate in 1870, and today Françoise Rigord — who has been making wine here since 1981 — continues alongside her son François. Winemaker Description

Produced from equal parts Pinot Noir and Grolleau, the fruit for this wine comes from Chidaine’s estate-grown, biodynamically farmed vineyards located just north of the Cher River between the villages of Montrichard and Chissay-en-Touraine.

The nose of gooseberries with floral notes is followed by a medium-full wine with a chalky texture. Excellent acidity and beautiful tension bring up the solid mineral core. Very refreshing but surprisingly complex — a perennial favorite where supply never meets demand.
