Contratto is one of Piedmont's oldest and most storied producers, with roots stretching back to 1867 in Canelli — the heartland of Italian vermouth and sparkling wine. Their first vermouth recipes date to the 1890s, and by the 1920s Contratto Vermouth di Torino had become the drink of the epoch, exported across the world and produced at 100,000 bottles annually. After decades of dormancy, Contratto has revived six of its historic recipes — including the Bitter — using formulas over 100 years old, responding to the global renaissance of artisanal aperitivo culture and classic cocktail craft.
