Georges and Daniel Daou grew up in Beirut, the sons of a self-made businessman in a city once known as the Paris of the Middle East. Their idyllic childhood was shattered in 1975 when the Lebanese Civil War brought a rocket into the family home, gravely injuring both brothers. Their parents nursed them back to health and moved the family to Paris, where the brothers rebuilt their lives, fell in love with the culture of food and wine, and began to dream of a life in winemaking.
Years later, after bootstrapping a technology startup to success in the United States, Georges and Daniel returned to their roots. They found their mountain in Paso Robles — a site of extraordinary elevation and limestone-rich soils — and built DAOU Vineyards with a singular conviction: that Paso Robles is California's next great region for Cabernet Sauvignon.
The Daou Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles 2024 375ml Half Bottle is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot, and 1% Cabernet Franc, aged 8 months in 50% new French oak. Deep ruby in the glass, it opens with black cherry, blackberry, elderberry, and pomegranate, with nuances of cigar box, leather, and nutmeg. The palate is plush and juicy with cassis, cranberry jam, dried plum, and allspice, carried by luxuriant tannins and a smooth, lasting finish.

A rich and compelling nose of blackberry, cassis, smoky leather and dried herbs is enhanced with layers of plum and cherry, cocoa and sandalwood. Notes of pencil lead and crushed rock mingle with subtle nuances of sage and menthol. Bold and full bodied, this wine is structured firmly around a solid core of boysenberry and cherry fruit. Supple, ripe tannins provide ample backbone for the layers of boysenberry, black cherry, licorice and dried herb flavors. Fleshy and weighty on the palate while retaining balance and finesse, it finishes long and clean with lingering notes of plum and blackberry. Winery notes
Expert Review - Prior Vintage 2022
Wine Enthusiast 91 Points | It's amazing that the Daou brothers can produce a formidable Cab that is this accessible at such a young age. The palate combines rich blackberry sauce with espresso bean and cocoa, as lingering, sappy tannins extend through the finish.
