Hallberg Vineyard is a dry-farmed site in the cool Green Valley area of the Russian River Valley, influenced by ocean breezes and cool nights. Dijon clones 667 and 777 bring together dark fruit, floral aromatics, earthy depth and spice. Moderate conditions in 2021 encouraged even ripening. Hand-sorted fruit, a small whole-cluster portion, cold soak and extended maceration built complexity; fifteen months on primary lees in French oak, 40% new, rounded out the texture.
Expert reviews - Vintage 2021
Vinous, 93 Points · 2021 vintage — The 2021 Pinot Noir Hallberg Vineyard opens with gorgeous floral aromatics. Bright and punchy, with notable energy, the 2021 marries Russian River exuberance with a good bit of vibrancy. White pepper, mint, crushed rocks, blood orange and mint lend notable brightness throughout.
Wine Enthusiast, 92 Points · — Aromas of crushed fresh raspberry, rose petals and cocoa powder dominate the nose of this dry farmed Pinot, while the palate brings flavors of macerated Bing cherry, black tea, cedar and purple flowers before a powdery soft finish.
Wine Spectator, 90 Points · — A friendly, open-knit red, offering a burst of plum and blackberry fruit flavors lined with light licorice and sweet spice hints. Polished finish. Drink now through 2028. 890 cases made.
