Gothic TellTale Rosé — Yamhill-Carlton, Oregon 2022
Named after Edgar Allan Poe's The Tell-Tale Heart, Gothic's TellTale Rosé is now in its tenth release — and it remains one of the Willamette Valley's most compelling and characterful pink wines. An assemblage of Pinot Noir fruit from vineyards throughout the valley, it owes its pale pink hue to a brief saignée — a technique that draws off a small portion of juice early in fermentation to concentrate the red wine while producing a rosé of rare delicacy and precision. Reviewed by both Vinous and Decanter, this is Oregon rosé at its most expressive.
The nose is perfumed and inviting — spicy citrus-tinged nectarines, wet stone, sweet wild berries, strawberry cream, and candied raspberry. On the palate, the wine is round and soothing, with fresh acidity and ripe orchard fruits — watermelon, rhubarb, sweet cherry, and young peach. A saline note and lingering hints of peach carry through the clean, refreshing finish. Pale pink, bright, and built for warm summer days and dining al fresco.
Vinous — "Opens with a spicy burst of citrus-tinged nectarines and wet stone. Round and soothing with fresh acidity and ripe orchard fruits. Leaves a saline note and lingering hints of young peach." — Eric Guido • Decanter — "Quite a perfumed wine, with aromas of sweet wild berries, strawberry cream and candied raspberry. Bright, crisp with watermelon, rhubarb and sweet cherry." — Clive Pursehouse
