• Eau-de-vie distilled in Ribeauvillé, Haut-Rhin, in the Alsace region of France
• Distilled from Poire Williams (known as Bartlett Pears in the US); the fruit is picked and stored in small wooden boxes (5 kg maximum) to allow for further, even ripening

The Volstead Act of 1920 which initiated Prohibition in the USA granted permits to six distillers in Kentucky to continue to bottle bourbon for medicinal purposes. Through one of these permits, Old Forester continued to be produced as medicinal whiskey on Louisville’s famed Whiskey Row. It is the only bourbon continuously sold by the same company that has been available for sale before, during and after Prohibition.

During this time, all whiskies had to be bottled at 100 Proof. With a barrel entry proof of 100, the “angel’s share” would have created a 115 proof whiskey after maturation. Winemaker Description 

This Vermouth uses a mixture of 26 aromatic herbs such as marjoram leaves, gentian roots, orange zest and others, which all together compose our family recipe. We then add a blend of different Pio Cesare white wines, including our Moscato d’Asti. After a 15-day maceration, the Vermouth obtained is aged in oak barrels for at least 4 months. The Recipe is finally completed with the addition of caramel, which gives our Vermouth its light color, and its distinctive aroma and taste. In order to better appreciate our Pio Cesare Vermouth, we recommend drinking it in the old “piemontese style”, sipping it with no ice, but just a little slice of lemon zest.

The folks at Pio Cesare did well to bring this traditional recipe for Vermouth back into circulation. This is an ideal aperitivo drink that can be served on ice with a slice of lemon. It opens to a bright orange-gold color and offers a complicated bouquet that recalls the many aromatic ingredients used in the infusion. The fishing is sweet, but not excessively so.

The arid region of San Dionisio Ocotopec, where this mezcal is made, is known for producing agave with high sugar content, which can come through in the flavor and complexity of the mezcal.

Forbes Magazine: This is an exceptionally smooth Cognac. Matured for four years. On the nose, it offers up rich floral aromas of violet, jasmine, roses, white flowers and peonies, along with intense fruity notes of sweet caramel apples, honey and both fresh and dried fruit, especially prune, peach and apricot, along with Sauterne like notes of golden raisin and fig, as well as some passion fruit and a touch of vanilla.
