Pinot Noir

Winemaker Description

Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label is the signature champagne of the House. Dominated by Pinot Noir, it offers the perfect balance of structure and finesse. Golden-yellow in color, with a foaming necklace of tiny bubbles. It is pleasing to the nose; initially reminiscent of yellow and white fruits, then of vanilla and later brioche. Note the fine balance between the fruity aromas coming from the grape varieties and the toasty notes, the result of the three years of bottle aging. The first sip delivers all the freshness and strength so typical of Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label with a symphony of fruit following (pear, lemon). It is a true member of the Brut family, well-structured, admirably vinous.

Each vineyard is chosen for its ability to express the best of its respective terroir, then carefully blended to achieve balance, complexity, and richness of flavor. The 2023 is aged six months in French oak barrels, adding structure and depth that is seldom seen in a Pinot Noir at this price point.

Gruet Brut Gold Label — New Mexico, USA

The story of Gruet is one of the great surprises in American wine. In 1984, the Gruet family of Champagne, France — already celebrated producers in the heart of the world’s most famous sparkling wine region — planted vineyards at 4,300 feet elevation in the New Mexico desert. What they discovered was a high-altitude terroir of remarkable character: cool nights, intense sun, and volcanic soils that produce grapes of exceptional natural acidity and finesse. The Gold Label Brut is their flagship cuvée: a Pinot Noir and Chardonnay blend crafted in the traditional méthode champenoise, with fine persistent bubbles, elegant brioche notes, and a crisp, refreshing finish that rivals sparkling wines at twice the price. Decanter awarded it 90 points. At $16.99, it is one of the most exciting values in American sparkling wine.

The nose is elegant and inviting: meringue, hints of lavender, and a whisper of molten candle wax. On the palate, fresh-cut apple flesh, wild honey, and quince come forward with brisk, satisfying acidity and a clean, persistent finish. Fine bubbles carry the wine from start to finish with real Champagne-house precision.

Montinore · Red Cap Pinot Noir 2023 · Willamette Valley, Oregon

Montinore Red Cap 2023 brings bright red fruit together with savory woodland notes in an approachable Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. Raspberry, Bing cherry and red currant meet forest floor and morel mushroom, with structured tannins and mineral detail carrying the fruit-forward finish.

Winemaker Description · Vintage 2023

Montinore: Fruit-forward aromas, including crushed red raspberry, Bing cherry and red currant, are supported by savory undertones of wet forest floor, morel mushroom and a hint of tar. On the palate, the wine shows medium acidity and an approachable yet structured tannin profile with a good mid-palate concentration of fruit. Bright red fruits envelop the palate and glide into a fruit-forward finish where the minerality provides extra complexity.

About Montinore

The Montinore name began with John Forbis, who moved to Oregon at the turn of the last century and found that his Forest Grove property reminded him of Montana. His own “Montana in Oregon” became Montinore Ranch. The Graham family restored the ranch name in the 1960s, farming a variety of crops and briefly raising cattle.

After ash from the 1980 Mount Saint Helens eruptions affected the ranch's crops, the family explored viticulture. Agricultural surveys by Oregon State University and UC Davis found the site well suited to grape-growing. The first vines were planted in 1982, followed by the first vintage in 1986.

Organic & Biodynamic Estate Farming

Rudy Marchesi joined Montinore as a vineyard consultant in 1998 and began implementing Biodynamic practices in 2003. He purchased the estate in 2005, and its 200-acre vineyard received Demeter Biodynamic certification in 2008. The estate later expanded with the 2019 purchase of Laughlin Road Ranch in northeastern Yamhill-Carlton, whose inaugural 2023 harvest included certified organic and Biodynamic Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Tasting Notes

Crushed raspberry, Bing cherry and red currant lead, supported by forest floor, morel mushroom and a hint of tar. Medium acidity and approachable, structured tannins frame a concentrated fruit core and a mineral-accented finish.

Food Pairings

Try with roasted chicken, salmon, mushroom risotto or herb-crusted pork tenderloin. The red fruit and savory notes offer a particularly appealing match for dishes that combine mushrooms and fresh herbs.

Lucien Albrecht Rosé Crémant d’Alsace Brut — Alsace NV

Lucien Albrecht was one of the pioneers who helped legally codify the Crémant d’Alsace appellation, and their Rosé is the wine that Wine Advocate's David Schildknecht calls "more intriguing and distinctive" than almost anything else in the category. Made from 100% Pinot Noir using the traditional méthode traditionnelle, it is a pure expression of the grape — saline, meaty, and herbal notes layered beneath vivid strawberry and raspberry fruit, with a lush palate and an invigorating finish. Two 90-point scores from Wine Enthusiast and James Suckling confirm what the glass already tells you: this is serious sparkling rosé at a price that makes no sense.

The nose is pretty and inviting — fresh strawberry, raspberry, orange blossom, and a discreet hint of sweetness. On the palate, the wine is bright and medium-bodied, with lively mousse, juicy red fruit, and a creamy texture. Rye crumb, red apple, and lemon add complexity, while saline and herbal notes give the mid-palate real character. The finish is dry, long, and clean with a touch of invigorating bitterness.

Fine bubbles create resonance on the dry finish." • James Suckling 90 — "Pretty nose of fresh strawberry, raspberry and orange blossom. Pinot Noir | Santa Barbara County, California
Vintage: 2024  |  Size: 750ml

Au Bon Climat has been crafting Burgundian-styled Pinot Noir from Santa Barbara County since 1982 — well before Sideways put the region on the map. Founded by the legendary Jim Clendenen, ABC remains one of California’s most consistent and intellectually honest producers, committed to restraint, terroir, and the long game.

The 2024 is a handcrafted blend from five premier vineyards across the county: Bien Nacido, North Canyon, and Rancho Real in the Santa Maria Valley, with a small percentage from Kick On and Los Alamos. Hand harvested, fermented in small lots with daily manual punch downs, and aged 8–12 months in François Frères French oak. The result is a wine of superb structure and earthy depth — red currant, blueberry, and blood orange on the nose, with bay leaf, white pepper, and wet stone in the background. Fine tannins, lively acidity, and a finish that rewards patience. Drink now through 2031.

“The possible food pairings are almost endless.”
— Au Bon Climat

Vineyards: Bien Nacido, North Canyon, Rancho Real, Kick On, Los Alamos

Expert Review — Vintage 2023

Wine Enthusiast — 89 Points (Tonya Pitts) | Fresh aromas of youthful strawberry, watermelon, and citrus zest on the nose. The palate is lively with raspberry jam, vanilla cream, orange peel, and clove — supported by supple tannins and a clean, dry finish.

Murphy-Goode Winery sources this Pinot Noir from premier cool-climate vineyards along the California coast, including Arroyo Seco, Santa Maria Valley, and Monterey. These exceptional growing sites maintain a perfect balance between vibrant dark fruit character and bright, refreshing acidity.

Flowers Vineyards Pinot Noir — Sonoma Coast, California 2023

Flowers Vineyards is one of California's most iconic coastal Pinot Noir estates, perched on the extreme Sonoma Coast where the Pacific Ocean's influence is felt in every bottle. Founded in 1991 by Walt and Joan Flowers, the estate farms some of the most dramatic and remote vineyard sites in California — high-elevation, wind-swept ridges above the fog line where the long, cool growing season produces Pinot Noir of extraordinary tension, complexity, and coastal character. Now part of the Huneeus Vintners family alongside Quintessa and Benton Lane, Flowers continues to set the benchmark for California coastal Pinot Noir. The 2023 vintage, shaped by a long, cool growing season, is one of the most compelling in recent memory.

The nose is captivating and complex: gravel dust, pine tar, and smashed blue fruits with whispers of violet florality, coastal evergreens, and wildflowers. On the palate, a core of red and blue brambles with a nearly feral, savoury character — dried herbs, black tea, warm spices (anise, cardamom, allspice), and earthy sandalwood — all threaded through by an intense saline throughline that crescendos at the finish with a bright squeeze of orange peel. Tangy, fresh, and beautifully balanced.

Decanter 93 Points — "There is an oomph and intensity to the 2023 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir from Flowers. Aromas of gravel dust, pine tar and smashed blue fruits come to the fore with whispers of violet florality. There's an intense saline throughline that crescendos at the finish."

James Suckling 93 Points — "A great reflection of the long, cool growing season. Tangy, fresh and well balanced, with intricate orange zest, cinnamon, red cherry and black tea flavors on a vibrant, acid-driven texture. Medium- to full-bodied." (Vintage 2023).

Hahn Estates SLH Pinot Noir Santa Lucia Highlands 2023 750ml

Hahn Estates is one of Monterey’s most respected producers, and the SLH bottling is their flagship Pinot Noir — estate-grown in the Santa Lucia Highlands, one of California’s most celebrated cool-climate AVAs. The SLH sits at 1,200–2,200 feet elevation in the mountains above Monterey Bay, where the famous “wind-gap” effect funnels cold Pacific air and morning fog through the valleys each afternoon. The result is a long, slow growing season that builds extraordinary flavor complexity while preserving the bright acidity that makes great Pinot Noir possible.

The 2023 SLH is a standout — generous, deep, and deeply Californian, with a richness of fruit that is beautifully balanced by savory complexity and silky tannins. A clear step up from the standard California tier and a wine that punches well above its price.

"So generous, deep and flavorful, offering crushed raspberry and baked-cherry notes on soft tannins. Savory nuances of black tea, mushrooms and forest floor." — James Suckling, 93 pts. (Vintage 2023).

Winemaker Description

The 2024 vintage in the Willamette Valley was a winemaker’s dream — cool, well-paced, and ideal for Elk Cove’s six estate vineyard sites: The Winery Estate, Mount Richmond, Five Mountain, Clay Court, Goodrich, and Windhill. A longer harvest window of 40 days allowed each block to receive optimal attention, yielding concentrated, fruit-forward wines with great complexity. The winery considers 2024 a potential classic Willamette Valley vintage.

Made from 100% estate-grown fruit spanning all three major Willamette Valley soil types, with both Pommard and Dijon clones represented. Each vineyard block is fermented separately in small, temperature-controlled steel tanks, hand punched down twice daily, then aged 10 months in French oak before careful blending. The result is Elk Cove’s most approachable, well-balanced Pinot Noir — fresh fruit, well-integrated alcohol, and great concentration of flavor.

Pairing Suggestions

• Poultry: Roasted duck with cherry sauce, herb-roasted chicken, or turkey with mushroom gravy.
• Meat: Lamb chops with rosemary, pork tenderloin with berry reduction, or salmon with pinot beurre blanc.
• Cheese: Aged Gruyère, Willamette Valley Brie, or a mild Oregon chevre.

DELOACH PINOT NOIR CALIFORNIA 2024 | 750ML

🇺🇸 United States — Pinot Noir | California Delta Region

An expressive, fruit-forward California Pinot Noir from a long-time pioneer in sustainable winemaking. The nose opens with ripe cherry, raspberry, wild strawberry, rose petal, and subtle baking spice. On the palate, vibrant red berry flavors — cranberry, pomegranate, and ripe cherry — are framed by soft tannins and bright acidity, with a touch of vanilla and a silky texture that carries through to the elegant finish.

Sourced from a single grower partner DeLoach has worked with since 2009, with fruit primarily from the Delta region where the cooling influence of the Sacramento River preserves natural acidity and creates ideal conditions for Pinot Noir. Grapes are de-stemmed and cold-soaked for four days to extract color, followed by two weeks of maceration before fermentation — yielding softer tannins and layered flavors. The vineyards are California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance (CSWA) certified, with a focus on reducing carbon footprint as well as agricultural impact.

Ponzi Vineyards is one of Oregon's founding wine estates, established in 1970 in the Dundee Hills by Dick and Nancy Ponzi — pioneers who helped define Willamette Valley Pinot Noir before the world was paying attention. Tavola, meaning "table" in Italian, is the estate's approachable, everyday expression of Pinot Noir: a wine built for sharing, for food, and for the kind of effortless pleasure that makes a bottle disappear too quickly. The 2023 is sourced from a blend of estate vineyards (65%) and select purchased fruit, matured for eight months in 25% new French oak to preserve freshness while adding subtle structure and spice.

Expert Reviews - Vintage 2023

92 Wine Advocate: "The 2023 Pinot Noir Tavola has inviting scents of black cherries, blackberries, holiday spices, earth and bitters. The medium-bodied palate is brimming with spicy berry flavors. 92 James Suckling: "A valley-wide blend of grapes that gives a vibrant, fresh and bright sense of red fruit, balanced by raspberries, black cherries and a rich texture on the palate. Light tannins, fresh acidity and a clean, balanced expression."

Hervé Rafflin La Nature'L Premier Cru Extra Brut — Montagne de Reims, Champagne

Hervé Rafflin took over his family's small estate in 2001, though the family's roots in Champagne stretch back to the 1840s. Farming 5 hectares across four premier cru villages — Chigny-les-Roses, Ludes, Rilly-la-Montagne, and Taissy — in the heart of the Montagne de Reims, Rafflin is the definition of grower Champagne: small production (no more than 9,000 bottles of this cuvée), certified organic as of 2021, and guided by the philosophy that nature dictates business, not demand. La Nature'L is the estate's flagship and most widely produced bottling — and it's easy to understand why.

The blend is 38% Pinot Noir, 36% Chardonnay, and 26% Pinot Meunier, drawn from 30–40 year old vines on ancient limestone, marl, and chalk soils. Aged 8 months in stainless steel with malolactic fermentation and dosed at just 1.8 g/L, this is Extra Brut in the truest sense. The nose is vivacious and pure — citrus, white flowers, and a subtle touch of baked bread. On the palate, bright salivating acidity drives through to a long, clean, refreshing finish. Unpretentious, delicious, and always reflective of the growing season.

Willamette Valley Pinot Noir That Sets the Benchmark for the Appellation

Bergström Wines has been one of Oregon's most celebrated estates since its founding in 1999, farming biodynamically across five estate vineyards in the Willamette Valley. The Cumberland Reserve Pinot Noir — a blend from Bergström's estate vineyards plus select purchased fruit, matured for 10 months — is the estate's definitive appellation-level expression: aromatic, silky, and layered, with the cool-climate precision and effortless balance that have made Bergström a reference point for Oregon Pinot Noir.
