Chateau Ste. Michelle | Chardonnay | Columbia Valley, Washington State | 2024

Chateau Ste. Michelle is Washington State's founding winery and most iconic producer, with a history stretching back to 1934. Based in Woodinville, the winery has been instrumental in establishing the Columbia Valley as one of America's premier wine regions — and their Columbia Valley Chardonnay remains one of the most consistent and best-value expressions of Washington State white wine available anywhere.

The Columbia Valley AVA is one of the largest and most diverse wine regions in the United States, stretching across eastern Washington. Its continental climate — with long, sunny days, cool nights, and low rainfall — allows Chardonnay to ripen fully while retaining natural acidity and freshness. Grapes are sourced from vineyards throughout the valley, blended to create a wine of complexity and consistency vintage after vintage.

The 2024 is crafted in a fresh, soft style with 50% of the wine aged sur lie for five months in a mix of neutral oak and 5% new oak, while the remaining 50% is fermented in stainless steel — a winemaking approach that delivers both texture and brightness. The result is a Chardonnay of genuine balance: juicy apple and sweet citrus fruit character, complemented by subtle spice and oak nuances, with a clean, food-friendly finish.

Incredibly versatile at the table — pair with roast chicken, grilled fish, pasta with cream sauce, seafood risotto, brie, and soft-ripened cheeses.

M. Chapoutier · Côtes-du-Rhône Belleruche · 2024

Michel Chapoutier approaches winemaking as a farmer’s work, seeking to reveal the character of soil, climate, and place rather than impose a technical style. Belleruche is a vivid expression of that Rhône philosophy, offering generous fruit, savory detail, and an inviting sense of freshness.

The 2024 opens with peppery red and black fruits, garrigue, spice, and subtle leather. Blackcurrant and raspberry carry onto a juicy, lively palate, joined by white pepper and gentle roasted notes. Medium-bodied and well balanced, it finishes with silky, delicate tannins.

67 Wine Somm Series DOCa Rioja Tempranillo 2021 — Rioja Alavesa, Spain

The 67 Wine Somm Series is curated by Oscar Garcia Moncada, 67 Wine’s in-house sommelier and Spain specialist. Each selection is Oscar’s personal search for wines that over-deliver on quality relative to price — bottles he would pour at his own table. This Rioja Tempranillo is a direct expression of that philosophy: a classic, food-friendly red from one of Spain’s most celebrated appellations at an everyday price.

Sourced from Rioja Alavesa — the northernmost and most elevated sub-zone of the DOCa Rioja, situated in the Basque Country — this 100% Tempranillo benefits from limestone-clay soils and a cooler, Atlantic-influenced climate that produces wines with brighter acidity, more aromatic lift, and greater elegance than those from the warmer Rioja Alta and Rioja Baja. Widely regarded as Rioja’s most terroir-expressive zone.

The 2021 delivers exactly what great everyday Rioja should: red berries, plums, and vanilla on the nose, a medium-bodied palate with good consistency and structure, and a very pleasant, clean finish.

Oscar Garcia Moncada, 67 Wine Sommelier — “Red berries, plums, and vanilla. Medium-bodied with good consistency on the palate. Very pleasant finish.”

One of Tuscany's most iconic white blends — fresh, mineral, and unchanged since 1931.

Villa Antinori Bianco is not a new idea. Niccolò Antinori first produced it in 1931, and the label has barely changed since. That kind of consistency is rare in wine, and it speaks to something important: this is a wine that has always known exactly what it wants to be. Bright, food-friendly, and unmistakably Tuscan.

The 2024 vintage brings together Trebbiano Toscano, Malvasia, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio, and Riesling — a classic Tuscan white blend that balances aromatic lift with crisp acidity. The nose opens with orange blossom, pineapple, golden apple, and citrus zest. On the palate it's fresh and pleasantly tense, with a mouth-filling texture and a clean mineral finish that keeps you coming back for another sip.

Sealed with a screwcap for freshness and convenience — pop it open straight from the fridge and pour freely. This is the white wine for long lunches, seafood dinners, and warm evenings on the terrace.

Enjoy Balta Pairs: Mas Petit Organic 2021

Expert Review - Vintage 2021

James Suckling writes 91 Points |  A well-balanced and flavorful blend of garnatxa and cabernet. Dark cherries, plums and earth aromas mingle on the nose and follow through to a medium body with creamy tannins. Vibrant with a fruity and chocolaty finish. From organically grown grapes. Vegan. Drink now.

Winemaker Description

Rhone meets Bordeaux in Penedes. The Cab here provides the body and power, Grenache for the florality and freshness. A cold maceration and fermentation in stainless before finishing in oak. Maison Louis Latour has been one of Burgundy's most trusted names since 1797, and their Mâcon-Lugny "Les Genièvres" is a perennial benchmark for what southern Burgundy Chardonnay can be at an honest price. The vineyard sits high in the village of Lugny — one of the Mâcon region's most celebrated white wine communes, prized for its limestone soils and warm, sun-drenched climate. Lugny was, in fact, one of the only villages in the region planted exclusively with Chardonnay three decades ago, a testament to how well-suited the terroir is to the grape.

The 2024 opens with a brilliant pale gold color and an expressive, floral nose: acacia, honeysuckle, and a delicate thread of vanilla. On the palate it's round and generous, with ripe yellow fruit — peach, golden apple — and an elegant, lingering finish. Wine Enthusiast: 91 points
“The nose energizes with aromas of lemon, lime, white flowers and crushed rocks. Our Professional Review — Oscar Garcia Moncada

In September 2022, I had the pleasure of traveling to Rioja, Spain, to visit one of my favorite producers: Bodegas Perica. Located in the picturesque village of San Asensio in La Rioja Alta, Bodegas Perica has been a bastion of winemaking tradition for three generations. The winery was in the midst of harvest, and I was fortunate enough to participate—gaining firsthand insight into the rigorous grape selection process that defines Bodegas Perica’s approach.

Anyone who has experienced a wine harvest understands the backbreaking labor involved in hand-harvesting: long hours, quick reflexes, and relentless speed. Yet despite the physical demands, the reward is undeniable—gathering at the end of the day to share a hearty meal and plenty of wine with a community united by purpose and passion.

David García Ábalos, the current owner of Bodegas Perica, and Zigor Cornago García, Director of Commerce, graciously gave me a personal tour of the winery, cellar, and production facilities. Perica stands out for using only estate-grown grapes from its own vineyards—a true commitment to quality and terroir. The winery also ages its Crianzas in 225-liter French oak barrels, and notably, many of its wines undergo extended aging beyond the minimum requirements set by the Rioja DOCa.

Founded in 1912 by Don Juan García, Bodegas Perica now cultivates over 150 hectares of vineyards in the prestigious Rioja Alta subregion, known for producing some of the finest expressions of Tempranillo.

This visit was especially meaningful to me, as it culminated in a tasting straight from the barrel to select the next wine for a private label project with 67Wine. After exploring a range of vintages and barrels, I ultimately chose the 2020 vintage. For me, it hit all the right notes—vibrant fruit, layered aromas, balanced structure, integrated tannins, and just the right touch of acidity. This wine is layered with nuances of tobacco, perfectly matured red fruit, and a touch of vanilla.

This superb Crianza, aged for up to 16 months in barrel followed by further aging in bottle, overdelivers in both quality and value. It drinks more like a Reserva—a testament to the exceptional fruit quality grown in Viña Olagosa in La Rioja Alta and to the meticulous work of the Bodegas Perica winemaking team.

Tasting Notes

Color: Medium garnet

Nose: Enticing aromas of red and black fruit — strawberries, raspberries, black cherry, and blackberry — with subtle hints of tobacco, cedar, and vanilla.

Palate: Medium-bodied with great balance. Acidity, tannins, and alcohol are all in harmony. Black cherry, strawberries, and raspberries intermingle with notes of tobacco, dried mushrooms, and a touch of eucalyptus.

Finish: Clean and pleasant with a long-lasting mouthfeel.

The result is a full-bodied, hedonistic Primitivo that delivers unexpected complexity at its price point — a genuine over-achiever from the heel of Italy's boot.

Winemaker Description

The Morning Fog Chardonnay stands as the cornerstone of the Wente Chardonnay portfolio, and the 2024 vintage proudly upholds this legacy. Subtle oak nuances of sweet cream and vanilla integrate effortlessly with the bright character of crisp Gala apple, underpinned by hints of fresh-cut pear and lemon curd. On the palate, the wine offers the hallmark weight and depth of classic Chardonnay, balanced by a refined acidity that brings a modest richness while preserving it svibrant, fruit-driven freshness.

Memo Summary Notes

The 2024 Wente Vineyards "Morning Fog" Chardonnay is a freshly released vintage from the estate that pioneered Chardonnay in California. Named for the coastal fog that rolls through the Livermore Valley, this wine is known for balancing "New World" fruitiness with a crisp, food-friendly acidity.

Because it has moderate acidity and subtle oak, it is more versatile than heavier Chardonnays:

• Seafood: Pan-seared scallops with lemon butter or roast chicken.

• Vegetarian: Pasta with cream-based sauces, roasted squash, or mushroom risotto.

• Casual: It is a classic "crowd-pleaser" for sipping on its own due to its smooth texture.

Mount Riley Wines | Sauvignon Blanc | Marlborough, New Zealand | 2025

Mount Riley is one of Marlborough's most respected producers, drawing fruit from multiple carefully selected vineyard sites across the region to craft wines that consistently deliver purity, vibrancy, and exceptional value. Their Sauvignon Blanc has become a benchmark for the appellation — expressive, food-friendly, and reliably excellent vintage after vintage.

Marlborough, at the northern tip of New Zealand's South Island, is the world's most celebrated region for Sauvignon Blanc. Its long, sunny days and cool nights preserve natural acidity and allow the grape to develop intense aromatic complexity, while the free-draining alluvial soils of the Wairau and Awatere Valleys contribute freshness and mineral precision.

The 2025 is a multi-vineyard blend fermented entirely in stainless steel to protect the purity and vibrancy of the fruit. The result is a wine of excellent intensity and focus — aromas of passion fruit, feijoa, kiwifruit, pink grapefruit, and lemon zest, layered with crushed herb, capsicum, and gooseberry. On the palate, fleshy texture and beautifully pitched acidity carry through to a crisp, lingering finish.

Etz Grüner Veltliner — Kamptal, Austria 2025

The story behind this bottle is one of the great underdog moments in Austrian wine. Franz Etz farms 30 hectares of vineyards in the Kamptal — one of Austria's most celebrated regions for Grüner Veltliner — and produces wines of quiet, consistent excellence. Then came the blind tasting: 14 of the world's top sommeliers, 600 Grüner Veltliners entered, and Franz Etz's wine came out on top. The recognition that followed led him to create a special 1.0L bottling of his fruit specifically for the U.S. market — a generous format designed to share, and priced to make it an easy yes at any table.

The Etz Grüner Veltliner 2025 pours a pale, bright straw. The nose is clean and classically Kamptal — citrus, green apple, white pepper, and a subtle mineral lift from the region's loess and primary rock soils. On the palate, it's refreshing and well-structured with lively acidity, a dry, focused mid-palate, and a crisp, lingering finish. Everything Grüner Veltliner should be: precise, food-friendly, and endlessly drinkable.

Bogle Vineyards California Chardonnay — California 2023

Bogle Vineyards has been farming the Sacramento River Delta since 1968 — one of California's most enduring family wine estates, now in its third generation. Their California Chardonnay is a perennial overachiever: sourced from select California vineyards, crafted with careful oak integration, and built to deliver genuine complexity at an everyday price. The 2023 vintage reflects the distinct influence of a cooler growing season, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly and develop nuanced, layered flavors that punch well above their weight class.

The nose is captivating: freshly baked brioche, yellow plum, bruléed orange slices, and notes of elderflower honey lead into vibrant aromas of bright citrus, freshly plucked apple, and delicate white jasmine. On the palate, stone fruit notes are met with rich undertones of vanilla and clove, harmonized with warm spice and a touch of oak-derived toastiness. Sugared lemon rind, baked pear, and Pink Lady apple carry through to a balanced, mineral-dry finish with higher toasty notes lingering gracefully.
