Dei · Rosso di Montepulciano · Tuscany 2024

The Dei family made its first wines from its estate in the heart of the historic Montepulciano appellation in 1985. Since 1991, Caterina Dei has led the estate, known for perfumed, fruit-driven wines that express the local Prugnolo clone of Sangiovese. The vineyards span 60 hectares on the slopes below Montepulciano, across the crus of Martiena, Bossona, La Piaggia, La Ciarliana, and Cervognano.

Expert Review · 2024

Vinous · 90 Points | The 2024 Rosso di Montepulciano is deeply satisfying with a burst of crushed raspberries and cherries, autumnal spice and dried roses. Ripe red and blue fruits flow across silken textures. A hint of wild blueberry lingers on the medium-length, gently tannic finish.

Winemaker Description

Fresh and aromatic with aromas and flavors of ripe red cherry, plum, and spice. The palate is medium-bodied with round tannins and a long finish.

Earlier Vintage Review · 2022

Vinous · 91 Points (2022) | The 2022 Rosso di Montepulciano is rosy and floral with a licorice tinge that complements its crushed raspberry fruits. Round and balanced with a pleasant inner sweetness and crisp red berry fruits, this washes easily across the palate, leaving a gentle tug of fine tannin in its wake. Hard candy and sweet sage notes stick around as the 2022 tapers off with fantastic length and youthful poise. Nicely done. Caterina Dei explained that Cantine Dei can’t produce enough of their Rosso to meet demand, and it’s easy to see why.

Castello Monaci Primitivo Piluna — Salento, Apulia 2023

Castello Monaci is one of Apulia's most storied estates, and Piluna — named for the ancient clay vessel once used to store water and wine — is its benchmark expression of Primitivo. Sourced from vineyards surrounding the historic estate in Salento, where dry clay, volcanic gravel, and limestone soils force vines deep in search of water, the wine delivers the rich, concentrated character that makes southern Italian Primitivo one of the world's most compelling value reds. James Suckling awarded it 90 points. At $14.99, it is one of Italy's most honest overachievers.

The nose opens with broad, ripe black fruit, sour cherries, sultanas, dried oranges, and sweet spices, with notes of pepper, toasty vanilla, and Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, it is robust and concentrated with a jammy, lightly sweet-sour character, ripe tannins, and a lingering finish of small black fruit and licorice. Harvested by hand before dawn to preserve sugar levels, then aged 6 months in a blend of stainless steel and 2nd and 3rd use French oak.

Our Professional Review — Oscar Garcia Moncada

In September 2022, I had the pleasure of traveling to Rioja, Spain, to visit one of my favorite producers: Bodegas Perica. Located in the picturesque village of San Asensio in La Rioja Alta, Bodegas Perica has been a bastion of winemaking tradition for three generations. The winery was in the midst of harvest, and I was fortunate enough to participate—gaining firsthand insight into the rigorous grape selection process that defines Bodegas Perica’s approach.

Anyone who has experienced a wine harvest understands the backbreaking labor involved in hand-harvesting: long hours, quick reflexes, and relentless speed. Yet despite the physical demands, the reward is undeniable—gathering at the end of the day to share a hearty meal and plenty of wine with a community united by purpose and passion.

David García Ábalos, the current owner of Bodegas Perica, and Zigor Cornago García, Director of Commerce, graciously gave me a personal tour of the winery, cellar, and production facilities. Perica stands out for using only estate-grown grapes from its own vineyards—a true commitment to quality and terroir. The winery also ages its Crianzas in 225-liter French oak barrels, and notably, many of its wines undergo extended aging beyond the minimum requirements set by the Rioja DOCa.

Founded in 1912 by Don Juan García, Bodegas Perica now cultivates over 150 hectares of vineyards in the prestigious Rioja Alta subregion, known for producing some of the finest expressions of Tempranillo.

This visit was especially meaningful to me, as it culminated in a tasting straight from the barrel to select the next wine for a private label project with 67Wine. After exploring a range of vintages and barrels, I ultimately chose the 2020 vintage. For me, it hit all the right notes—vibrant fruit, layered aromas, balanced structure, integrated tannins, and just the right touch of acidity. This wine is layered with nuances of tobacco, perfectly matured red fruit, and a touch of vanilla.

This superb Crianza, aged for up to 16 months in barrel followed by further aging in bottle, overdelivers in both quality and value. It drinks more like a Reserva—a testament to the exceptional fruit quality grown in Viña Olagosa in La Rioja Alta and to the meticulous work of the Bodegas Perica winemaking team.

Tasting Notes

Color: Medium garnet

Nose: Enticing aromas of red and black fruit — strawberries, raspberries, black cherry, and blackberry — with subtle hints of tobacco, cedar, and vanilla.

Palate: Medium-bodied with great balance. Acidity, tannins, and alcohol are all in harmony. Black cherry, strawberries, and raspberries intermingle with notes of tobacco, dried mushrooms, and a touch of eucalyptus.

Finish: Clean and pleasant with a long-lasting mouthfeel.

Oscar Garcia Moncada, 67Wine

The result is a full-bodied, hedonistic Primitivo that delivers unexpected complexity at its price point — a genuine over-achiever from the heel of Italy's boot.

Mount Riley Wines | Sauvignon Blanc | Marlborough, New Zealand | 2025

Mount Riley is one of Marlborough's most respected producers, drawing fruit from multiple carefully selected vineyard sites across the region to craft wines that consistently deliver purity, vibrancy, and exceptional value. Their Sauvignon Blanc has become a benchmark for the appellation — expressive, food-friendly, and reliably excellent vintage after vintage.

Marlborough, at the northern tip of New Zealand's South Island, is the world's most celebrated region for Sauvignon Blanc. Its long, sunny days and cool nights preserve natural acidity and allow the grape to develop intense aromatic complexity, while the free-draining alluvial soils of the Wairau and Awatere Valleys contribute freshness and mineral precision.

The 2025 is a multi-vineyard blend fermented entirely in stainless steel to protect the purity and vibrancy of the fruit. The result is a wine of excellent intensity and focus — aromas of passion fruit, feijoa, kiwifruit, pink grapefruit, and lemon zest, layered with crushed herb, capsicum, and gooseberry. On the palate, fleshy texture and beautifully pitched acidity carry through to a crisp, lingering finish.

A classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc for any occasion. Pair with oysters, grilled fish, sushi, goat cheese, green salads, and light poultry.

Winemaker Description

The Morning Fog Chardonnay stands as the cornerstone of the Wente Chardonnay portfolio, and the 2024 vintage proudly upholds this legacy. Subtle oak nuances of sweet cream and vanilla integrate effortlessly with the bright character of crisp Gala apple, underpinned by hints of fresh-cut pear and lemon curd. On the palate, the wine offers the hallmark weight and depth of classic Chardonnay, balanced by a refined acidity that brings a modest richness while preserving it svibrant, fruit-driven freshness.

Because it has moderate acidity and subtle oak, it is more versatile than heavier Chardonnays:

• Seafood: Pan-seared scallops with lemon butter or roast chicken.

• Vegetarian: Pasta with cream-based sauces, roasted squash, or mushroom risotto.

• Casual: It is a classic "crowd-pleaser" for sipping on its own due to its smooth texture.

Etz Grüner Veltliner — Kamptal, Austria 2025

The story behind this bottle is one of the great underdog moments in Austrian wine. Franz Etz farms 30 hectares of vineyards in the Kamptal — one of Austria's most celebrated regions for Grüner Veltliner — and produces wines of quiet, consistent excellence. Then came the blind tasting: 14 of the world's top sommeliers, 600 Grüner Veltliners entered, and Franz Etz's wine came out on top. The recognition that followed led him to create a special 1.0L bottling of his fruit specifically for the U.S. market — a generous format designed to share, and priced to make it an easy yes at any table.

The Etz Grüner Veltliner 2025 pours a pale, bright straw. The nose is clean and classically Kamptal — citrus, green apple, white pepper, and a subtle mineral lift from the region's loess and primary rock soils. On the palate, it's refreshing and well-structured with lively acidity, a dry, focused mid-palate, and a crisp, lingering finish. Everything Grüner Veltliner should be: precise, food-friendly, and endlessly drinkable.

Bogle Vineyards California Chardonnay — California 2023

Their California Chardonnay is a perennial overachiever: sourced from select California vineyards, crafted with careful oak integration, and built to deliver genuine complexity at an everyday price. The 2023 vintage reflects the distinct influence of a cooler growing season, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly and develop nuanced, layered flavors that punch well above their weight class.

Sugared lemon rind, baked pear, and Pink Lady apple carry through to a balanced, mineral-dry finish with higher toasty notes lingering gracefully.

Diatom Chardonnay — Santa Barbara County 2024

Greg Brewer's Diatom project is built on a single, radical idea: subtraction. No oak barrels. No malolactic fermentation. No extended aging. Just 100% Chardonnay from Santa Barbara County, fermented and aged six months in stainless steel, stripped of everything that typically softens, butters, or blurs the grape. What remains is electric — a wine that tastes like the soil and the sea. The name itself is a clue: diatomaceous earth, the plankton fossil-rich geology beneath Santa Barbara's vineyards, is the terroir this wine is designed to express. Jeb Dunnuck awarded it 94 points and called it "a no-brainer purchase." Wine Spectator followed at 93, James Suckling at 93, Wine Enthusiast at 92, and Wine Advocate at 90. Across the board, the verdict is the same: this is one of California's most precise and honest Chardonnays.

The nose is vivid and pure: exotic citrus, minty herbs, oyster shell, honeydew rind, lime candy, and a whisper of sea spray. On the palate, it is sleek and taut — ripe pear, ginger, pomelo, and brisk lime zest coiled around a mouthwatering thread of acidity. Salinity and minerals run through the finish alongside springtime blossoms and a lingering kick of melon pith. It gains weight and richness with time in the glass without ever losing its electric freshness.

Expert Review · 2024

Wine Enthusiast · 90 Points | This wine is concentrated, with lush aromatics of dark blackberries, boysenberries, cinnamon and orange zest on the nose. Supple acidity marks the finish. The palate is supple and rich, but not saturated, with lingering notes of mulberry, cassis and red currant confiture, layered with mocha, cigar and silky tannins. — Tonya Pitts

Winemaker Description

Dark garnet in color with juicy flavors of blueberry, blackberry, and black cherry. Most of the fruit comes from the Lodi AVA, with the remainder sourced from sustainable vineyards throughout the Central Valley. The wine is then aged on new and used French and American oak for 4–6 months, adding structure and a subtle layer of complexity to the fruit-forward profile.

67Wine Somm Series Cava Gran Reserva Guarda Superior Brut Nature — Penèdes, Catalonia, Spain 2018

The 67Wine Somm Series is a project created by our in-house buyer and sommelier, Oscar Garcia Moncada — a meticulously curated collection of high-quality, value-driven wines selected to represent the best of what the wine world has to offer at an accessible price. Each label in the series features artwork inspired by iconic New York City neighborhoods and landmarks. The Gran Reserva Guarda Superior is Oscar's prestige Cava selection: a 2018 vintage Brut Nature crafted from the three classic white varieties of El Penèdes — Xarel·lo, Macabeo, and Parellada — fermented separately and aged a minimum of 48 months sur lattes in the traditional Champenoise method. Guarda Superior is Cava's highest quality tier, reserved for wines aged at least 18 months — this wine more than doubles that requirement, delivering a level of complexity and autolytic depth that rivals wines at several times the price.

The color is pale straw yellow, brilliant and clear, with a constant release of fine bubbles forming a delicate crown on the surface of the glass. The nose is extremely fine and fresh: the special aroma of extended cellar aging gives it a personality of its own — croissants, almonds, white fruit, salinity, and minerality. On the palate, varietal flavors mingle beautifully with the character of the aging process, achieving a perfect balance of fine acidity and elegance. The bubbles are very small and delicate, the finish long and harmonious. A Cava of genuine distinction.

"A blend of the three white grape varietals traditionally used in El Penèdes. Fermented separately, then aged 48 months sur lattes using the Traditional Method. Extremely fine and fresh — croissants, almonds, white fruit, salinity and minerality. Very elegant." — Oscar Garcia Moncada, 67Wine Somm

Cheese Pairing

Recommended: Essex Street / G. Cravero 'Parmigiano Reggiano' 2 yrs — available at 67Gourmet

All too often in America, we think of Parmigiano Reggiano as a topping for pasta, but truly great iterations of this cheese are wonderful eaten on its own or with a superb Italian wine. The Cravero family has been aging Reggiano since 1851, and their cheese is unique among all other Parmigiano. It has distinct tropical fruit and pineapple overtones in the middle of the palate which turn the salty finish into a harmonious counterpoint. One taste of this and you'll see why Reggiano is widely considered the king of all cheese.

Bogle Vineyards · Clarksburg · California · 2023

There is something quietly extraordinary about a vine that has been growing in the same spot for sixty, seventy, eighty years. It has survived drought and frost, boom years and lean ones, and in doing so has learned to give less — and mean more. Bogle Vineyards Old Vine Zinfandel is the direct expression of that patience: a wine drawn from head-trained vines planted decades ago in the rich delta soils of Clarksburg, where the Sacramento River keeps the summers honest and the nights cool.

The nose leads with cranberry, raspberry, and ripe red cherry, then deepens into marionberry pie and warm baking spices — cinnamon, clove, a hint of vanilla. On the palate it’s generous and round, with the kind of fruit-forward richness that Zinfandel does best, balanced by enough structure to carry it through a long, satisfying finish.

• Producer: Bogle Vineyards
• Vintage: 2023
• Appellation: Clarksburg, California
• Varietal: Zinfandel
• Vine Age: 60–80 years (head-trained, old vine)
• Size: 750ml
• Tasting Notes: Cranberry, raspberry, red cherry, marionberry pie, baking spices, vanilla
• Pairings: BBQ ribs, grilled sausages, braised short ribs, aged cheddar, mushroom ragù

Old vines, honest fruit, and a price that makes it an easy yes — this is California Zinfandel at its most satisfying.
