Hugel Classic Riesling — Alsace, France 2024

Famille Hugel is one of Alsace's most storied and respected wine dynasties — founded in Riquewihr in 1639 and now in its fourteenth generation of family ownership, making it one of the oldest continuously operating wine estates in the world. From their base in the medieval village of Riquewihr at the heart of the Alsace wine route, the Hugel family has been a defining force in establishing Alsace Riesling as one of the world's great white wine styles: dry, mineral, precise, and built for the table. The Classic Riesling is the family's signature expression — sourced from around half estate-grown fruit from Riquewihr, supplemented by select villages to the north and south, and crafted to showcase the finesse, frankness, and electric minerality that define Hugel's house style. A bright colour with clear legs that herald what is to come, the aromas rapidly announcing a charming and almost heady wine. Vinous: 91 Points (Prior 2023 vintage) — Minty herbs combine with crushed stone and nuances of exotic spice as the Pietramara blossoms in the glass. Soothingly round, displaying a pretty inner sweetness balanced by juicy acidity and a core of tart orchard fruits. Hints of raw almond mix with candied citrus, showing a sweet and sour character through the long and mouthwatering finale.

I Favati is one of Campania's most respected family estates, farming the volcanic hillside vineyards of Avellino with a commitment to expressing the singular character of Fiano — one of southern Italy's most ancient and distinguished white varieties. The Pietramara is the estate's flagship Fiano di Avellino, sourced from old vines planted in the high-altitude soils of the Irpinia hills, where cool temperatures, volcanic ash and mineral-rich limestone combine to produce whites of remarkable depth, tension and longevity.

Fiano di Avellino has been prized since antiquity — the Romans called it Vitis Apiana, the vine of the bees, for the irresistible sweetness of its grapes. Today it is recognized as one of Italy's finest white DOCG appellations, capable of producing wines that age gracefully for a decade or more. The Pietramara is vinified to honor that tradition: fermented in stainless steel to preserve freshness and aromatic precision, with extended lees contact adding texture and complexity.

The 2024 opens with aromas of lemon peel, ripe pear, white peach and a distinctive smoky, mineral note — the hallmark of Avellino's volcanic soils. Il Lussurioso Buglioni Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG 2019

In 1993, Alfredo Buglioni purchased a hillside villa in the heart of Valpolicella Classico, drawn by the beauty of the land and the quality of its vines. Trading grapes with local producers in exchange for winemaking knowledge, the Buglioni family spent years learning the craft before releasing their first vintage in 2000. Today, the estate spans 153 certified organic acres, guided by enologist Diego Bertoni and a commitment to expressing the unique terroir of Valpolicella Classico with both tradition and a modern sensibility.

"Il Lussurioso" — Italian for "the luxurious one" — takes its name from the wine's long, lingering finish. Crafted from 100% estate fruit sourced from Vigneto San Pietro in Sant'Ambrogio, situated at approximately 495 feet elevation on dark, clayey soils rich in gravel, the grapes are hand-harvested in mid-September and dried through the traditional appassimento process until January. The result is a wine of extraordinary concentration, complexity, and depth. Certified organic.

The 2019 vintage followed a mild winter and a cool, healthy growing season with moderate temperatures through summer, allowing the vines to ripen slowly and evenly. Grapes were manually harvested in selected bunches around mid-September at peak maturity.

Intense ruby red in the glass, the wine opens with scents of cherry, black cherry, dried plum, star anise, clove, espresso, and white pepper, with mineral and dried leaf notes. The palate is lush and full-bodied, with chewy tannins framing flavors of dried cherry, cured tobacco, cocoa powder, and baking spice. Soft, fresh, and elegant, with a long, luxurious finish. The Wine Advocate 94 Points | The 2019 Gold Vidal Icewine was fermented and aged for about 14 weeks in 90% new French oak. It comes in with 272 grams of residual sugar, 10.5 of total acidity and 10% alcohol. Rich and unctuous, this also has classic aromatics and a certain level of freshness that keeps it from being particularly cloying. This is also completely delicious, with a little of bit of spicy apricots on the mouthwatering finish. The acidity lifts the fruit and allows it to shine through. It's never going to be a nervy wine, but it is not flabby either. If you like stickies, this won't disappoint. It should age very well, acquiring a bit more character along the way. Many will like it the way it is, but it can acquire another dimension in time. Best After 2021

From the Troesmes sub-climat of Chablis Premier Cru Beauroy, this organically farmed wine reflects the limestone-rich terroir of one of Burgundy’s celebrated white wine regions. Located northwest of the village of Chablis, within the communes of Poinchy and Beine, Beauroy encompasses three sub-climats: Beauroy, Côte de Savant, and Troesmes.

The gently sloping vineyards face south to southeast, with shallow topsoil over Kimmeridgian limestone and white clay. Isabelle and Denis Pommier farm organically and work the soils manually. Grapes are harvested into small 15-kilogram cases and pressed immediately.

Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation take place equally in tank and neutral oak barrels of varying ages. The wine then spends 18 months on its lees, with two-thirds aged in tank and one-third in oak.
