Vinous 93 Points | The 2023 Vouvray Sec Le Haut-Lieu is a pure, refined, seamless style with pear, pineapple and nectarine flavors. It boasts excellent clarity and refinement, with lovely freshness hailing from calibrated acidity that bursts through this blossoming wine. Considering this was only bottled three weeks before tasting, I’m very encouraged by the results.

There's beautiful range and just enough plumpness to make this generous, yet it's held in check by a chalky mineral element and very fine tannins. Dornfelder is an extremely popular German red grape that is based on four classic varieties: Lemberger (aka Blaufränkisch), Portugieser, Frühburgunder, and Trollinger. Each year we add selected wines to the blend to bring subtle complexity and richness without losing the flavor of the traditional wines of Tuscany. Tannins are so fine, really sculpting this wine, with a clear bite and almost strict tang to the overall structure giving a sense of tension. I like the terroir aspect, the saltiness but still with juicy richness. Less ample than Bellefonte but more precise.

Isole e Olena is one of Chianti Classico’s most storied estates, born from the union of two medieval villages in the heart of the appellation. Founded in 1956 by Francesco De Marchi and shaped into a benchmark producer by his son Paolo, the estate has long been synonymous with authentic, terroir-driven Sangiovese. In 2022, the De Marchi family passed the baton to Christopher Descours, whose team — led by longtime estate director Emanuele Reolon — continues the same mission: to give voice to an extraordinary region through wines of superb character. The 2022 vintage earned 93 points from James Suckling and 92 from both Wine Advocate and Vinous.

A blend of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Canaiolo, the nose is layered and expressive: bright red cherries, dried cherries, sweet violets, licorice, and a hint of Tuscan rosemary and laurel leaf. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and supple — silky tannins frame a core of bright red fruit, rose petal, cinnamon, and blood orange, with a crunchy, refreshing finish.
